Summer (March-May) : Summers in Aizawl are sticky and warm due to the humid subtropical climate. Although the place doesn’t get much heated, humidity is generally high. The temperature remains on an average of 25°C, which is bearable. If you visit during April, you can take delight in some beautiful flowers of the hills in full bloom.

Monsoon (June-September) : Aizawl receives plenty of rainfall during monsoon; hence, it is best to avoid visiting the place during this season. Although the temperature is moderate, the humidity level remains high, which can be bothersome.

Winter (October-February) : Although it rains in October in Aizawl, it is less compared to the monsoon season. It is the month when winter begins to step in. During November, the skies are clear, and the weather isn’t misty without causing hindrances to the beautiful Mountain View. The temperature in winter ranges from 11-23 degrees Celsius with January being the coldest winter month.

Weather in Aizawl

The place experiences a subtropical climate throughout the year. The summer heat is warm and bearable, while during winters, mornings are chilly and nights are colder.

During summers, the average temperature ranges around 20 to 30°C, while the temperature falls from 11 to 20°C during winters. Rainfall is maximum during May, June, July, and August; the remaining months are mostly dry.

Dampa Tiger Reserve

Dampa or Dampha Tiger Reserve is the largest wildlife sanctuary in the North-eastern state of Mizoram. In 1994, it was declared a tiger reserve. Situated in west Mizoram, near the Bangladesh border (127 km from Aizawl), this wildlife sanctuary cum tiger reserve covers 550 sq km. The tropical forests of Dampa house dense jungle, hills, yawning valleys, streams, and natural salt licks.

The Mizoram State Museum in Aizawl is an ethnographic museum that offers multipurpose collections on display. The collection comprises of four-story and five galleries, namely Textile Gallery, Ethnology, History, Anthropology, Natural History, and an Archaeology Terrace. This museum started its journey in April 1977 as an initiative of the Tribal Research Institute under the Education Department.
