The Las Vegas hotel elevator doors opened and I stepped in and pressed the button for the lobby. I fixed my hair in the mirror then turned to face the doors. A few floors down, the elevator stopped and a man and woman joined me. I recognized the man immediately; it was Tim, my ex-boyfriend from my student days. He recognized me too, but he looked away blushing. The attractive woman he was with, put her arm around him, holding him tightly, and kissed him on the cheek. I then noticed they were wearing shiny wedding bands. She looked very happy, but he looked embarrassd to see me.
It had been over ten years since we last met. We had been so close back in those days, spending every day together, so happy and so in love. Our relationship lasted for three years and only finished when we graduated college and he went to Seattle to go to grad school, while I found my dream job in a fashion house in New York. He had put on a little weight and lost a little hair, but he still looked great. He always was a handsome guy, and always very popular.
The elevator stopped at the
hotel lobby, the doors
opened, and we all got out. They turned left towards
the
restaurant, but
I
turned right and walked towards the main entrance. I stopped
by at the front
desk and asked if there were
any messages for me.
'What is
your name, please sir?' asked the clerk.
'It's John K. Adams,' I answered.
'I'm
afraid not, sir. Are you expecting
an important message?'
the clerk asked me.
'Maybe not,' I laughed and walked out into the bright sunshine.
