Kohima, the capital town of Nagaland, is one of the beautiful places in the northeast, known for its untouched beauty. Kohima is known as Kewhima or Kewhira, named after the Kewhi flowers, it is an anglicized name given by the British. It lies on the foothills of the Japfü section of the Barail Range, located south of Nagaland.

Kohima became an urban location in 1878 when the British government established its headquarters in the then-Naga Hills District under the then-Assam Province. In 1963, Kohima officially became the capital of the state of Nagaland. It is known to be the site of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. The British National Army Museum declared the Battle of Kohima as Britain's Greatest Battle in 2013.

By Air

Kohima is well-connected via Dimapur Airport (the only airport in the state). There are flights between Kolkata and Dimapur; you can get flights to other metropolitan cities from Kolkata.

By Train

You can reach Kohima via Dimapur railway station, located on the main line of the North East Frontier Railway. There are many trains between Guwahati, which is well-connected with the major Indian cities.

By Road

Kohima is well-connected by NH 2 and NH 29; the Dimapur–Kohima Expressway connects Kohima with Dimapur.

Whether You Need A Ilp/Pap

An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required for Indian Nationals to enter Nagaland. You can apply for an ILP by downloading the form from the Nagaland Portal. Nagaland House offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Shillong, or Guwahati will also be able to obtain an ILP application form from there. But foreign passport holders don't need an extra Protected Area Permit or, PAP to travel to Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
