The
Miura
peninsula is
located a short train ride away from Tokyo. I took the Shonan Shinjuku
line
to reach an area famed for its tuna and rambling. The peninsula is in
Kanagawa prefecture and
marks the boundary between Tokyo Bay and Sagami Bay.
A
handy map shows three hiking
courses on the west side taking in the rocky coast and
Misaki and
Jagoshima island in the south. One can also visit the long sweeping
sands of
Miura
Kaigan in the east.
The photos are from the rocky east coast. This six
kilometre hike crosses cabbage fields to reach
a quiet beach and
headland, popular with
windsurfers and sailors.
I
also visited the old-fashioned but quaint
Aburatsubo aquarium, which
has a very energetic dolphin
and sealion show and is located on a
lovely headland at the end of another hiking course.
