Shosenkyo
gorge near to Kofu,
is a beautiful part of Yamanashi, only 90 minutes
from Tokyo by Azusa
express train on the Chuo line from Shinjuku. A 30
minute bus ride takes visitors to the start of a 4 km walk
up towards
the 30m Sengakataki waterfall. The gorge
becomes increasingly spectacular with interestingly
shaped rocks
in the fast flowing Arakawa river.
At the top of the waterfall, there are numerous shops selling crystals.
You can pass these by and head for
the cable-car (rope-way)
which
takes you up to a viewpoint with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji and
the
Southern
Alps. Make sure you head left
and hike up to the higher
viewpoint which is reached by climbing
some round granite boulders and
is
an adventure for those who are scared of heights.
